    half a sammwich.
When cindy is unhappy it's still really cute. Here.

and we wore hats at the airport here...

So the trip back east is half way done.

First and foremost I'd like to apologize to pittsburgh for holding hugs too long. If I've made someone uncomfortable, I apologize. I realize no victims of my long hugs read this, but atleast I'm making the apology available. It's just that the people I value the most get a super hug. I guess they just don't totally understand it. It's ok. Cindy says I'm too hard on myself about it. And it's not like anyone said a word about hug discomfort. Not even a weird grunt. But I sensed something in the air.

We spent a lot of time driving. My mothers cabin is deep in the woods. She's moving and I'm excited about her living in civilization again. She needs an operation though and that is not fun.

At any rate, I saw most of the people I wanted to see in Pittsburgh. I decorated a tree with friends so old we call eachother brother and mean it. I went to a wafflehouse on Christmas eve and overtipped the waitress. I spent a lot of time at The Beehive, which is the best coffee shop in the world (and I've been searching). I saw my dads friend BOB, and we made a list of places to leave dads ashes at bike week. I saw Rocky Balboa and it was good. Cindy met a way old girlfriend of mine and we all took pictures with the Perry Como statue. I talked to an excited weinerdog named Heidi alot.

So far christmas has been berry berry good to me. Cocoa wheats tshirt. Zombie survival tshirt. Big threadless.com tshirt order. periodic table socks, dinosaur socks, feeted pajamas, steeler shoes and socks, heelie shoes, a very nice brown corderoy sport jacket, a coffee pot that grinds the beans, lost girls comic, directing shot by shot book, toaster oven, funny underwear, and a lot of other doodads. I raked it in. I feel like a rock star.

I also feel like it's a good time to discuss a few new games I like playing. I've talked about "Do you know where we are right now?" before. A few days ago Cindy and I played a long great game of "What do you think _____ is doing RIGHT now?" It's a two player game my friend Beau and I made. Basically the blank space is filled in with a person who both of you know. The asker tries to think of the most obscure people that both of you have intereracted with. Then the answerer must come up with the answer to what that obsure person is doing that exact moment. You win when both people are in total hysterics laughing, and both people know it's the best one ever.

The other game is one Cindy and I made up called "Who knows what's up?" It's a multiplayer driving game best suited to urban envirements. You point out some one or a group of people and must describe in detail why they do or do not know what's up. You win when everyone is in total hysterics laughing, and everyone knows it's the best one ever.

Next up is Rochester, new years eve, festivus, and goodtimes with old friends. And Cindy's crazy family.

    I can't wait.

    the best tshirts ever.
As I have stated previously, I am a bit of a tshirt conesuer. Especially "special" tshirts. I have run across another person like myself named Brad. He told me about www.threadless.com Oh my god it's the coolest site ever. I want every tshirt they sell. They have a tshirt a month club! If you thought that you desperately needed to buy me a present in any future, just go there. You can design tshirts, and have people vote on your design, then they make it! And everyone can buy it. And i really love all the designs.

    Bedtime story
Here's a bedtime story i wrote to my friend over IM:
    12:34 am
    Them -Bore me to sleep

Me -It's your high opinion of me that makes me want to talk to you so.

Them -Ok tell me a bedtime story with penguins in it

Me -Sometimes Penguins are gay. No one really knows why. It just happens. One time when I was on the north pole I saw two male penguins going at it. They noticed I was watching and got angry. Apparently penguins prefer privancy when gay humping. How was I supposed to know?! So I did the only thing I could. I snow boarded away on my Burton rocket snowboard.

It was a bitching ride. But not fast enough to get away from those fuckers. They stalked me like the meat I am. Eventually I got a blister from all that awesome rocket snowboarding. I was sitting, with a knife about to lance the mother blister. Just then, the "Top" Penguin jumped from behind a passing Polar bear and beaked me right in the eye. I dropped my knife! Good thing my eye is made of titanium.

I sucked out the blister juice and spit it up his ass. It ofcourse acted like a douche, and he left looking for a proper bathroom.

Then the other one came for me, but we opted for tea and a civilized discussion. Now we're friends. He lives in my garage. It's totally cool, but he's 2 months late on rent.

    Some exciting dates to note.
    Here's some exciting things happening:

    1. Daybreak, the tv show I've been working on since July starts airing tonight on ABC after "dancing with the stars." Please tell me how wonderfully you thought the lights were placed (because that's what I did).

It's sort of funny how worried everyone is at work about people watching the show. If it did badly they'd cancel it tomarrow and I'd be out of a job. Or if it did really well, I guess something really good might happen. I have heard of shows cancelling after a single episode. Look at "Pepper Dennis" or "Emily's Reasons". I really do want to see it tank. Something about me wants to see a train wreck. I just haven't ever seen that happen. I don't want to see people out of jobs, but I do like chaos.

It seems like tanking is unlikely though. It's on after Dancing w/the stars, which is rated #1. And everyone I talk to seems to like Taye Diggs. Plus, it's wednesday, that's like total tv night.

    2. Saturday at 8 pm Cindy and I are going to see "They're Not Zombies", which is a play about zombies. It's at the Lex Theatre. Come join us.

    3. Sat. at midnight Cindy is retiring from Rocky for a bit. Come see her last show with Sins at the NuArt Theatre in Santa Monica.

    4. Sunday at 2pm we are going to see the stage version of "Night of the Living Dead" at the Stella Adler theatre. I'm pretty excited about all this Zombie theatre. Dunno if it'll be any good though. But come check it out if you wanna.

    5. If you don't have family in LA, or plainly don't like them, come to Thanksgiving at our house. We're having a vegetarian feast, which basically is exactly the same except tofurkey instead of turkey. Plus basketball and movies. Dinners at 4pm. Bring something to help feed us all. And let me know your coming so we make enough. We're hoping for a pretty big group.

    6. on Nov. 24th we return to Zombie stuff when we see "Night of the living dead" the movie with all new live comedy audio at the LA Connection Comedy Theatre. I know it seems like a lot of zombie, but the walking dead are like perfect friends.

    7. On sat. Nov.25 my friend Mike is putting on "Day in the Dirt", which is a huge dirtbike racing weekend. Were gonna watch who can launch themselves into the air the highest.

I guess that's a pretty big social calander. I'm excited anyway. Hope to see you all at some of this junk.

And in the darkest hours deals are done....
A little more than a year ago I got a new moleskin notebook. I always carry these. They live in my pocket and I write everything in them. The first thing I wrote is this, "The plans for the take over."

That's a pretty bold statment. And it requires a bold effort to see it fruitate. With less than 20 pages left in the notebook, it's worth an update. Soon the notebook will be complete and I'll start a new one. And I'd better be doing more than drawing plans.

So I've been writing a short with my old roomate Mike. I want it finished and ready to preproduce by dec. It seems reasonable. Tomarrow we shoot hoops and discuss the current draft. Mike's a great writer and he puts up with my bullshit.

I called my friend Rahn D'Agastino today. He wrote the play I directed in January. I told him to write me a short I can direct. Less than ten pages. Make it about the cut, not the scene. Use the medium. He's written like ten great plays, so it'll be good. His only response was, "I'll get to work."

Finally, Jason Vey IM-ed me today. I've known Jason since highschool. We went to Rocky Horror together as virgins 14 years ago. I've even dated his sister. Jason has had a bunch of RPG source books published. He's emailed me a treatment for a feature he wants me to direct. He needs my opinion before continueing.

    It's starting to cook.

I am making the plans to take over. Finally, progress is happening. If you wanna help me get some movies made next year, please tell me.

It was a friday, just like any other day...
    But first, the news....

Uncertain is a good musical group mixing modern goth with 30's piano/upright bass. I recommend them. They can be found under my friends list in myspace.

I am trying to only write when I have something worth saying. A topic. A serious proclamation. It helps keep you reading too.

    And now our feature presentation...

I'm at work right now. It's almost midnight, about to become Saturday. We are all dead tired, and we haven't had a friday that's finished before midnight. Mostly it's after 2 am. We call it "fuck you friday".

We started this job in late july and I mean it when I say that if it wasn't for my expert fashion choices, several people would have quit long ago. You see, I have a very decent collection of t-shirts. Lots and lots of funny, unique, one of a kinds. And I use them to delight my co-worker bee's. Since July, I have yet to repeat a single t-shirt.

Initially, it was unintentional. I'd just wear whatever. I just wasn't repeating by accident. And it was almost two months before I started organizing my shirts or mentioning it to Cindy.

So I've got enough tshirts to make it till the end of the shoot in dec. but I can't remember whichones I've worn. To combat the problem, I've starting searching thrift stores at a frantic pace while still holding my standards high.

    Today I wore this:

It's a shirt I bought yesterday from goodwill. I didn't give it much thought. It was funny because of the for lovers bit.

Well' isn't that just ducky you're probably thinking. Here's the important part. Some one just told me that "brain" is a current slang reference for giving or maybe receiving head. So, oral sex is for lovers. Now that is a fucking awesome t-shirt! But what bugs me is that I didn't have a clue.

I pride myself on keeping time with the current generation, because I feel like I trancend generations without getting a big head. Gen X, Gen Y, whatever, I still know what's up. I'm still a total weirdo, but I'm not naive. Am I?

Not having a clue about a particular slang is an indication that your losing your edge. Like becoming an adult. Like becoming square. And that is not keeping it real. Not even close.

This was written a while back. I've ment to post it....

    Saturday Night's Alright
Hey all you boppers out there in the grid. Check me out playing Eddie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Nuart Theatre saturday night. Hell, I'm even in the preshow.

I'm semi-retired now, so seeing me perform is becoming a rarity.

Also, earlier that evening we are checking out rollerderby with the derby dolls in downtown LA. Taye Diggs is threatening to join us too.

With my scheduale, seeing me at all is a rarity, so I hope you all come out.

    The weirdo beardo project.
Men can't wear dresses. Well, not without some weird looks. And without the benifit of long hair, even varying hairdoos is iffy. We don't really get many of the style options women do. Except for the beard. We got the patent, the exclusive use, the motherload of beardom.

Last year I ended up with a beard due to laziness and working too much. I had it when I cast my play in December and as I began rehearsals. One day I shaved and my aging actress figured I didn't know anything because I looked younger. She mentioned it the day I shaved. She became a royal asspain for the remander of the production, because she just didn't respect me.

Some of my fellow director friends and I have decided from now on, when directing, there must be beard.

Now as many of you know I grew a beard a few months back because I was directing a one act play.

The beard stuck around until last week when I finally had enough of it. Cindy and I thought of shaving it in parts to subject my co-workers to my stupidness. Below are the pictures.

#1 sometime last year, just mutton chops.

    #2 early beard.

    #3 mid beard.

    #4 heavy beard

    #5 amish

    #6 the goat and burn

    #7 soul patch

    #8 cindy soul patch

"Beau, do you know where we are right now?"
    Hi there.

Last night I renewed my license on hblogger. I now can write posts on my treo650 again. Soon I'll be able to post with pictures too. I just need to figure out my ftp stuff with my server space and web page. I know zero about this stuff. If you can help me out, please drop me a line.

I play a game with my co-worker, Beau. It's based on a section of a comic book called, The Watchmen. If you don't know, The Watchmen is one of the three greatest graphic novels ever written. It's about a group of aging, retired heroes. An old member of their team is murdered and they get intouch with eachother regarding his death among other things. It is a book filled with love, rape, deceit, and duty. That doesn't make a game between Beau and I. But if you haven't read it, you should.

One of the main characters in the Watchmen does not appear to be fettered by the normal constraints of time and space. He know all that has and will happen to him. Dropping a piece of paper now is happening at the same time as him kissing his wife for the first time 30 years before. I suppose there is still some pleasure in living his life. Being in a moment is different than knowing what will happen. Doing can be better than knowing.

This seems like a heady subject. It's tough to explain memory. I hope we all do it without much effort. It's laid out perfectly in The Watchmen though.

I think about it all the time. This is similar to how my memory works. It's a game I play with myself often. It's also the game I play with Beau.

We will be in the middle of something. Setting a 20,000 watt light in a dank alleyway. Or fixing a lamp in a set on stage, and I'll ask, "Beau, do you know where we are right now?" He guesses sometimes, being a half interested participant.

"Are we walking home, done with our work?"
    No.
"Are we on vacation, fishing for yellowtail?"
    No Beau.
"I give up. Where are we?"
We are in the old VA hospital. I have just gotten there. Called in at the last minute on "Accepted". I am hungry having been woken up by the phone call of work. There was no time to get breakfast. I still feel half asleep. It is very hot even though it's only 9 am. We are in a small room that is very dark, it's windows blacked out. We have shaken hands for the first time, and you are showing me the power distro box with a flash light. We are there now, meeting for the first time. We always were. We always will be.
Beau smiles. "Oh yes. We are there."

It's the place I tell him we are most often, no matter where we really are. And he seems to put up with it.

I am in all sorts of places today. Ouside a bar in New York City on a summer night in the1996. Riding my bike down College St. in Canonsburg, PA on a late spring afternoon when I'm 14. In Boston with Casey at a rundown building in August of 2001 at 3:45pm, standing in line, getting fruits and vegetables for a dollar a bag, with my last dollar.

I am always unimpressed by the brain I have. It's horrid forgetful nature. But pleasantly, I'm surprised when something popps up after being gone so long.

This is why old people don't seem to do much. This is why I don't do more. And this is why I play the game, "Do you know where we are right now?"
